Solana Beach voters are on track to approve Measure C, a 1% increase to the city\u2019s hotel and lodging tax, following the initial results posted Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
The tax will apply to guests at local hotels and short-term rentals, not directly to residents of the city. The revenue will be used for \u201cessential services and facilities\u201d in Solana Beach, according to the city, including parks, beaches, trails and public restrooms.<\/p>\n
The measure also requires public spending reports and annual financial audits.<\/p>\n
City Council members voted 4-0 to put the measure on the ballot earlier this year, in part because they wanted a more reliable stream of revenue with less certainty from the federal government. The current 13% tax rate has not been updated in 20 years, and a city survey showed that 71% of residents supported an increase.<\/p>\n
Councilmember Jill MacDonald, who was absent during the vote to put the measure on the ballot, submitted a letter supporting it.<\/p>\n
Councilmember Kristi Becker was also elected to her third term on the City Council representing District 2, and Jenna Wolfe-Dellamano was elected to her first term for District 4, replacing MacDonald, who did not seek reelection.
