SAN JOSE \u2014 A driver hit and killed a pedestrian early Friday morning in San Jose, police said.<\/p>\n

The collision happened around 1:40 a.m. near the intersection of West San Carlos and McEvoy streets, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a news release.<\/p>\n

An initial investigation determined a man was driving a 2006 Toyota pickup truck westbound on West San Carlos Street when he hit a man crossing the roadway on foot, Hernandez said, adding that the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.<\/p>\n

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Hernandez said.<\/p>\n

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner\u2019s Office will release the pedestrian\u2019s identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.<\/p>\n

The death marks the city\u2019s 34th traffic fatality of the year. San Jose had recorded 44 deaths at the same point in 2024.<\/p>\n
