A sexually violent predator dubbed the \u201cbolder-than-most\u201d rapist who had been previously released in Borrego Springs was rearrested earlier this month on a suspected parole violation, according to investigators.<\/p>\n
Alvin Ray Quarles, 63, was booked into Vista Jail on Nov. 6, more than nine months after he was released from Coalinga State Hospital, online jail records show. Before being committed to the hospital in 2014, Quarles had served 25 years in state prison for a series of sexual assaults in the 1980s.<\/p>\n
Officials from the District Attorney\u2019s Office declined to specify the newly alleged violation against Quarles but said the conditional release program requested the court revoke Quarles\u2019 outpatient release.<\/p>\n
The prosecutors\u2019 motion and a report from Liberty Healthcare, the contractor that oversees the program, were put into a confidential file, the District Attorney\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n
Quarles\u2019 next hearing is set for Jan. 23.<\/p>\n
He has been transported back to Coalinga State Hospital in the meantime, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n
Quarles pleaded guilty in 1989 to committing a string of rapes, robberies and burglaries. Many of the attacks were committed at knifepoint, and Quarles sometimes forced the women\u2019s husbands or boyfriends to watch.<\/p>\n
The sexually violent predator, or SVP, designation is for those convicted of sexually violent offenses and diagnosed with a mental disorder that makes them likely to re-offend. After serving their prison sentences, SVPs undergo treatment at state hospitals but may also petition courts to continue treatment in outpatient locations.<\/p>\n
