It messes up tires, can damage your car, but also for safety,\u201d said Mission Valley resident James Houston.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Another big issue in some parts has been flooding, including at the intersection of Sorrento Valley Road and Carmel Mountain Road in Carmel Valley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Some drivers took the risk of going around road closure signs and driving through, which law enforcement officials advise against.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThey need to pay attention to those signs. Usually these are pre-set in some of our very highly-likely to flood areas and it\u2019s there for everyone\u2019s safety,\u201d said Officer Anthony Carrasco with the San Diego Police Department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In past storms, areas like La Jolla have seen stranded drivers in pooling water and parts of Mission Valley have too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cYou drive your car through and then the water splashes all up in the air,\u201d said San Diego resident Anthony Lightfoot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police continue to remind people that the best thing they can do if they come across flooding is to turn around.\u00a0Also, give yourself more time to get to where you\u2019re going and don\u2019t speed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If you start to hydroplane don\u2019t slam on the breaks, rather steer into an area can you safely proceed to band slowly start to break.\u00a0Additionally, if you see any downed power lines call 911.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If you have to hit the road in the rain, check your tire tread before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cOne of the tricks is to take a penny, turn it upside down and the distance between the top and the head of Abraham Lincoln \u2013 that\u2019s about the appropriate the minimum tread depth in California,\u201d said Officer Carrasco.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
