{"id":57813,"date":"2025-11-18T02:50:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T02:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/57813\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T02:50:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T02:50:07","slug":"plnu-soccer-teams-win-head-to-ncaa-tournaments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/57813\/","title":{"rendered":"PLNU soccer teams win, head to NCAA tournaments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Point Loma Nazarene men\u2019s soccer team will be hosting the NCAA Division II West Regionals this week, while the Sea Lions\u2019 women\u2019s soccer and volleyball teams will both be in tournament action on the road.<\/p>\n<p>Both PLNU soccer teams won their PacWest Conference Tournaments last Saturday to gain automatic berths in the NCAA Division II Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The men (15-3-1) will be the No. 3 seed in the regionals and will play sixth-seeded Cal State San Bernardino at 1 p.m. Saturday on the PLNU campus.<\/p>\n<p>The fifth-seeded PLNU women (10-3-5) will travel to Bellingham, Wash., to play Azusa Pacific in Thursday\u2019s first round. The winner will play No. 1 seed Western Washington in Saturday\u2019s second round.<\/p>\n<p>More soccer<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The men\u2019s and women\u2019s 3C2A soccer tournaments start on Wednesday, and eight local teams are involved. The men\u2019s team at Cuyamaca College (18-1-2) drew a first-round bye and will host the winner of the first-round game between San Diego City College (11-6-5) and Fullerton College (8-6-7) on Saturday. Golden West College (7-6-6) will travel to MiraCosta College (11-4-6) at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Palomar College (11-7-3) will play at Cypress College (13-3-5) at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>PCAC women\u2019s champion Southwestern College (14-3-4) will host Ventura (9-6-6) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. PCAC runner-up MiraCosta (12-4-6) will also be home to Pierce (9-5-5), while Palomar (11-4-5) will open at Pasadena (14-6-2) and Mesa (7-8-5) will open at Bakersfield.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Cal State San Marcos men\u2019s soccer team (7-8-5) lost 3-0 to Stanislaus State in the California Collegiate Athletic Association\u2019s championship game after defeating top-seeded Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-2 in overtime in the semifinals. Efren Dominguez scored the winning goal in 95th minute after assisting on Cisco Avila\u2019s game-tying goal in the 74th minute.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 San Diego State\u2019s men (7-9-2) lost 4-0 to San Jose State in first round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 UC San Diego\u2019s men (2-9-7) lost 2-0 at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in the first round of the Big West Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Tritons\u2019 women\u2019s team (5-6-8) defeated UC Santa Barbara 1-0 at home Saturday on an 81st-minute goal by Alexis Nguyen. Charlotte Wilfert had six saves in the shutout.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 USD\u2019s women (4-7-7) ended their 1-7-3 West Coast Conference season on a three-game losing streak.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s volleyball<\/p>\n<p>USD\u2019s women\u2019s volleyball team (21-4, 14-0) defeated Oregon State and Portland, both in five sets, to extend its winning streak to 14 straight matches.<\/p>\n<p>Isabel Clark had 31 kills, five blocks and nine digs in the two wins. Nemo Beach had 30 kills; Kali Engeman had 18 kills and six blocks and Kylie Munday had 79 assists and 12 digs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The sixth-ranked PLNU women\u2019s volleyball team (23-3), led by Saren Rogers\u2019 25 kills and 16 kills and eight blocks by Kyra Miles, defeated ninth-ranked Fresno Pacific 3-2 at home Saturday to win a second PacWest regular season title in three years. The Sea Lions are the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, which starts Thursday in Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Mesa College\u2019s women\u2019s volleyball team (27-1) extended its winning streak to 24 straight matches by defeating Grossmont 3-1 to clinch the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s basketball<\/p>\n<p>USD\u00a0 is off to a 1-3 start following a 79-47 loss at Arizona State last Thursday. UC San Diego is also 1-3 after a 80-69 loss at San Francisco Sunday despite receiving a career-high 18 points from 6-foot-4 forward Erin Condron.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Cal State San Marcos is off to a 2-0 start after scoring a 62-50 win over PLNU (0-2) at home. Guards Kristan Yumul and Sophie Morales led the Cougars with 18 and 17 points, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 MiraCosta College is off to a 5-0 start with sophomore guard Kyla Palpallatoc (Morse High) averaging 16.6 points per game. Palomar College is off to a 4-1 start with guards Kylee Trujillo (Mission Hills High School, 16.8 ppg) and Ivorii Seals (Mira Mesa High School, 15.8 ppg) leading the way.<\/p>\n<p>Men\u2019s basketball<\/p>\n<p>Defending PacWest champion Point Loma Nazarene is off to a 2-0 start after defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills (90-82) and Cal State San Bernardino (87-66) in the PacWest\/CCAA challenge. Forward Andrew Nagy had 36 points and 18 rebounds in the two games, while guard James Nobles had 33 points and 12 rebounds and guard Jaden Matingou had 30 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.<\/p>\n<p>Cross country<\/p>\n<p>Cuyamaca College is ranked second and Mesa College fifth in the men\u2019s division and Mesa College is ranked third in the women\u2019s division heading into Friday\u2019s California Community College State Championships in Fresno.<\/p>\n<p>Mesa\u2019s Luciano Roberts was third overall in the men\u2019s race at the Southern California Regionals at Liberty Station. Cuyamaca\u2019s Ivan Guzman was 10th.<\/p>\n<p>Mesa\u2019s Jazzlyn Islas was second among the individuals, and teammate Natalie Allen (Valley Center High School) finished fifth in the women\u2019s SoCal Regionals. Cuyamaca\u2019s Marseel Bahnan finished 15th.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Point Loma Nazarene\u2019s Madeline Reeves finished fourth overall in Saturday\u2019s NCAA Division II West Regional Championships in Monmouth, Oregon. PLNU\u2019s women finished sixth in the team standings.
