Officers\u00a0responded to the campus and found Beam\u00a0suffering from gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n
Paramedics\u00a0with the Oakland Fire Department rushed the 66-year-old to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day at 10 a.m.<\/p>\n
Irving was\u00a0located\u00a0and arrested that same morning at the San Leandro BART station.<\/p>\n
A firearm matching the caliber of the gun used to kill Beam was found in the 27-year-old\u2019s possession during the arrest. While investigators interviewed the man, Irving admitted that the gun belonged to him and that he used it to shoot Beam,\u00a0KRON reported.<\/p>\n
On Monday, authorities with the\u00a0Alameda County District\u00a0Attorney\u2019s\u00a0Office announced that he had been charged with murder, along with 10\u00a0additional\u00a0felonies related to the alleged murder.<\/p>\n

A Bay\u00a0Area coaching legend, Beam was head coach of the Laney College football program from 2012 to 2024. After\u00a0his retirement, he\u00a0stayed on\u00a0as Laney\u2019s athletic director, a position\u00a0he\u2019d\u00a0held since 2006.<\/p>\n
An influential and beloved father figure and mentor to many who knew him and played for him, he gained\u00a0national prominence in Season 5 of the Netflix\u00a0documentary\u00a0series \u201cLast\u00a0Chance U,\u201d\u00a0which was centered around Beam and\u00a0Laney College\u00a0the\u00a0Los Angeles Times reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n Chicago Bears cornerback Nashon Wright played junior college football under Beam\u00a0in 2018.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was watching over me,\u201d Wright said\u00a0Sunday\u00a0after the Bears\u2019 19-17 win over\u00a0the Vikings. \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0crazy. He called me the night before he\u00a0passed\u00a0and he told me that every game he watched, I\u00a0just seemed to get\u00a0a pick.
