Former NBA player Patrick Beverley<\/a> was arrested after being accused by his teenage sister of grabbing her by the neck with a tight grip and punching her in the eye during an incident early Friday morning at their mother\u2019s home in Fort Bend County, Texas.<\/p>\n

Beverley, 37, is being charged with the third-degree felony of assault of a family\/household member and impeding breath and could face two to 10 years in prison and\/or up to $10,000 in fines. A bond of $40,000 was set, which TMZ reports<\/a> was posted the same day.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Beverley wrote on X<\/a>, \u201cPlease don\u2019t believe everything you see on the internet.\u201d <\/p>\n

Later that day, the former Lakers and Clippers player posted a statement from his attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, on X <\/a>regarding the alleged incident. <\/p>\n

\u201cPatrick Beverley has no criminal record,\u201d the statement said. \u201cHe cares deeply about his little sister \u2014 a young lady, a minor. Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister. <\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, we don\u2019t believe what followed happened the way it\u2019s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beverley indicated in a separate post<\/a> the next day that his sister \u201cjust turned 15.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo yea but please keep the fam in prayers,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Friday, Fort Bend County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy Miguel Ramirez was dispatched to a residence at around 3:50 a.m. in response to a possible family violence situation. Ramirez spoke to Beverley\u2019s sister, who said she had gone out Thursday night to see her boyfriend without the permission of her mother, Lisa Beverley.<\/p>\n

After Beverley\u2019s sister arrived home, she told Ramirez, her mother had her tell her boyfriend to come over. Once he was there, the affidavit states, Lisa Beverley had her son come to her house. <\/p>\n

According to the affidavit, Beverley\u2019s sister said that, after Beverley arrived, he \u201cbegan to tell her a statement to the extent what is wrong with her, in reference to her leaving the residence without permission\u201d and then \u201cgrabbed her by her neck with both hands, and picked her up off the ground, by having her feet come up from the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

The affidavit states that Beverley\u2019s sister said her brother \u201csqueezed her neck causing her to feel pain\u201d and she felt like \u201cshe was losing oxygen and not able to breathe\u201d for approximately 20 to 30 seconds. Beverley\u2019s sister also stated that he slammed her body against the walls and punched her in the left eye, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n

The affidavit notes that Ramirez saw \u201cmarkings\u201d on the alleged victim\u2019s neck and petechiae \u2014 tiny spots \u2014 \u201cin the white part of her eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The alleged victim told Ramirez that \u201cPatrick Beverley made a statement to her during the assauit, to the extent that he will be the family relative to kill her,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n

Beverley left the residence to follow the boyfriend, according to the affidavit. He returned and informed his mother and sister that the boyfriend had called law enforcement. <\/p>\n

\u201cI placed Patrick Beverley in custody and transported him to the Fort Bend County jail to prevent further family violence,\u201d Ramirez wrote.<\/p>\n

A court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 15.<\/p>\n

Quinones-Hollins further addressed the allegations against her client in a statement emailed to The Times on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand that the affidavit contains some negative details; however, remember that it is only one side of the story \u2014 given at a time when emotions were high,\u201d the attorney wrote. \u201cAs I\u2019ve said before, we don\u2019t believe that the description in that affidavit is accurate, nor is it complete. Patrick is not a violent man and was not violent that night. In fact, he was very respectful with the authorities that night and encouraged others to do the same. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe is the provider and protector of his family, including his little sister and his mom. He has always looked out for their wellbeing and will continue to do so. I have every expectation that when all the facts are in, Patrick will be cleared of these charges.
