CLARKSTON, Mich. \u2013 Some schools in northern Oakland County were under a shelter-in-place order after ICE agents were in the area Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Clarkston Community Schools told families and staff on Nov. 19 that it had lifted a shelter-in-place order after a police presence.<\/p>\n
The sheriff\u2019s office told the school district that they were called to help ICE agents in finding two people in the area of Sashabaw and Clarkston roads.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we would with any police activity near our schools, we put our buildings into shelter-in-place as a precautionary measure,\u201d said the school district. \u201cThis is done to keep our students and staff safe inside our schools.\u201d<\/p>\n
Clarkston Community Schools received an \u201call-clear\u201d at around 11 a.m. and lifted the shelter-in-place order.<\/p>\n
The Oakland County Sheriff\u2019s Office released the following statement:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were notified by federal agents that they were pursuing suspects \u2013 reported gang members\u2013 who had fled on foot near an elementary school in Independence Township. Out of an abundance of caution, the school initiated a shelter-in-place. We immediately deployed resources to protect the students, staff and surrounding community, and to assist in the search for the suspects.<\/p>\n
At this time, the suspects have not been located. The only remaining law enforcement presence in the area is at the elementary school where officers will remain until all students have safely gone home.\u201d<\/p>\n
