PACE, Fla. (WKRC) – The daughter of a couple accused of running a pill mill has avoided trial.<\/p>\n

According to WEAR,<\/a> Laikyn Burklow, the 22-year-old daughter of the owners of Pace Pharmacy in Pace, Florida, has entered a Pre-Trial Diversion (PTD) program, avoiding trial for her involvement in an alleged pill mill scheme. <\/p>\n

Burklow pleaded no contest last week and will participate in a six-month PTD program, which includes 20 hours of community service and a prohibition on possessing or consuming controlled substances without a doctor’s permission.<\/p>\n

She was arrested in June for possession of prescription drugs without a prescription. According to a warrant, her charges are linked to prescription bottles in her name issued by Dr. Wesley Sherouse, who stated he never authorized them.<\/p>\n

According to a previous report, <\/a>Laikyn Burklow’s arrest followed the June arrests of her parents, Stephen and Monique Burklow, who are accused of operating a pill mill at their pharmacy. <\/p>\n

Stephen Burklow, a pharmacist, and Monique Burklow, the office manager, along with another pharmacist, David Winkles, face charges of conspiring to traffic prescription drugs. Stephen Burklow also faces a fraud charge. The three are scheduled to appear in court on December 16.<\/p>\n

The Burklows were re-arrested on additional charges after being out on bond. Stephen Burklow faces new charges of drug possession and fraud, while Monique Burklow faces drug possession charges. The charges stem from items seized during a search warrant executed at their home on May 14. Laikyn Burklow was also arrested on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a new\/legend drug without a prescription.<\/p>\n

Stephen and Monique Burklow were initially arrested on May 14 for conspiring to traffic prescription drugs, linked to Dr. Elaine Sharp’s pill mill scheme. Dr. Sharp is awaiting trial on murder charges. Stephen and Monique Burklow were released on bonds of $1,310,000 and $600,000, respectively, after their initial arrests.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"PACE, Fla.
