Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on Wednesday for the <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/bakersfield-considers-new-waterpark-development-at-city-council-meeting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">proposed Tortuga Bay Waterpark<\/a> in northwest Bakersfield. <\/p>\n<p>The decision followed Council Member Larry Koman&#8217;s request for further discussion after pulling the item from the consent calendar. <\/p>\n<p>Tortuga Bay, the company behind the project, plans to reimburse the city approximately $200,000 for the report&#8217;s cost. <\/p>\n<p><img council Wednesday evening details that Tortuga Bay Waterpark, LLC., has applied for a General Plan Amendment to allow development on the southeast corner of Hageman Road and Mohawk Street noopener\">Bakersfield considers new water park development at city council meeting<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite the approval, city officials caution that the project is still in its early stages and there is no guarantee it will be built.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Bakersfield <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bakersfieldcity.us\/282\/Planning-Guides\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">website states<\/a> in part that an EIR analyzes the significant environmental effects of a proposed project, to identify alternatives, and to disclose possible ways to reduce or avoid the possible environmental southeast intersection of Hageman Road and Mohawk Street. <\/p>\n<p>In a written statement, Councilmember Andrae Gonzales expressed support for the project but reiterated that nothing is
