Viola Davis made her feelings quite clear Thursday on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: She misses Chadwick Boseman almost unbearably. <\/p>\n
So close to unbearably that \u2014 even though it\u2019s been more than five years since his death<\/a> \u2014 Boseman\u2019s co-star in \u201cMa Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom\u201d started her speech at his star dedication ceremony<\/a> by saying she couldn\u2019t refer to him as \u201cgone\u201d and couldn\u2019t link the word \u201cdeath\u201d to his memory. <\/p>\n \u201cChadwick, you channeled the divine,\u201d said Davis, 60. \u201cYou were a conduit, a source of connectiveness that every single human being … that is on this Earth is searching for. Trying to connect to each other, trying to connect to our art, trying to know \u2014 like the Cherokee birth blessing<\/a> \u2014 may we live long enough to understand why we were born.<\/p>\n \u201cThat was Chadwick. More than just an actor who you can observe onscreen doing wonderful work. It was work that reminded us that we are less alone.\u201d<\/p>\n Boseman got his one Oscar nomination, posthumously, for his lead actor performance as Levee<\/a> in \u201cMa Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom.\u201d Davis was also nominated for her portrayal of Ma Rainey<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s best to use all of life. Leave death nothing but the dregs. Nothing but a burned-out castle. And Chadwick was a castle,\u201d Davis told the crowd that assembled in Hollywood despite the threat of rain. \u201cChadwick was a mighty, mighty elixir that sort of stirred up that alchemy that we\u2019re all in search of, which is meaning.\u201d<\/p>\n
