Thursday\u2019s jobs report suggests the US economy is much stronger than expected \u2014 but California lags behind the rest of the nation.<\/p>\n
Delayed over six weeks by the government shutdown, the report showed that the US economy created 119,000 jobs in September.<\/a><\/p>\n That blew away economists\u2019 consensus prediction of just 50,000, since summer months usually see slow job growth.<\/p>\n Sure seems a sign \u201cthe Trump economic policies are actually working,\u201d as Vice President JD Vance put it. <\/p>\n Not so, the progressive economic policies of Gov. Gavin Newsom\u2019s <\/a>California.<\/p>\n The Golden State has had the nation\u2019s highest unemployment rate for several months running. And, as The Post pointed out<\/a>, Cali also leads the nation in inflation, with prices rising a whopping 4.0% in San Diego.<\/p>\n Nor is Newsom\u2019s California joining in the jobs boom. Per to the latest data (from August), the state\u2019s year-on-year employment growth is just 0.39%<\/a> \u2014 far behind the national average of 0.91%.<\/p>\n Several Cali metro areas also suffered annual job losses \u2014 including San Francisco, despite its supposed AI-driven revival.<\/p>\n The nonpartisan state Legislative Analyst\u2019s Office said this week: \u201cCalifornia businesses have pared back hiring, resulting in no payroll job growth in the state so far this year.\u201d<\/p>\n And a Public Policy Institute of California survey found that more than eight in ten adults call the lack of well-paying jobs a \u201cbig problem\u201d (28%) or \u201csomewhat of a problem\u201d (58%).<\/p>\n That\u2019s no surprise to anyone who has walked past the abandoned shops along the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, or the deserted department stores of San Francisco\u2019s Union Square.<\/p>\n
