At the\u00a0Rose Pizzeria<\/a> team\u2019s new Cafe Brusco in Berkeley, I have been trying to choose my favorite bagel sandwich. To be honest, I can\u2019t decide. But I love how seasonal the place is, and highly recommend getting the Flirty Fig ($13), which is topped with jammy rounds of purple figs, before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a new Indonesian stall on the second floor of\u00a0Saluhall in downtown San Francisco called Sate & Soto. The name suggests an emphasis on skewers and soups (accurate), but there\u2019s also a fun rendang sandwich ($15). The star is slow-cooked, juicy beef that smells like coconut milk and lemongrass, with the richness offset by herbs, pickled carrots and cucumber. (It\u2019s also the first time I\u2019ve ever encountered rice noodles in a sandwich.)<\/p>\n

In Oakland\u2019s\u00a0Temescal, you\u2019re spoiled for choice when it comes to Korean food. But one of the newer, lesser-known spots, To the Moon, is very much worth checking out. The menu is divided by price, and if you flip to the $24.99 page, Cheese Buldak is at the top. Order it. This spicy, gochujang-heavy dish is also known as fire chicken, and here, a layer of melted cheese balances the heat.
