FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Community members across Central California are ensuring their neighbors don’t go without this holiday season.<\/p>\n
Attorney Jeff Fayngor partnered with the Fresno County Boys and Girls Club to offer free meals to the club’s families on Sunday.<\/p>\n
“It’s important for us to give back to people who are less fortunate, who aren’t in the same position as us, who might be struggling through hard times,” said Fayngor.<\/p>\n
Fayngor’s team gave away 400 turkeys as well as other fixings for a Thanksgiving meal.<\/p>\n
Organizers said it’s just one way to help during a difficult time for many.<\/p>\n
“This is a time of need. I know that a lot of people, again, are losing their jobs; they’re in what I want to call an income deficit. More is needed this time of year. Again, it’s all due to that state of the economy,” said Boys & Girls Club Director Sandra Dee Chaney.<\/p>\n
Another giveaway took place at Hoover High School in northeast Fresno. Fresno City Councilmember Tyler Maxwell continued his annual giveaway that started five years ago.<\/p>\n
This year, Maxwell said they offered 650 Thanksgiving meals to neighbors in his district.<\/p>\n
“Everything costs more, and our families are definitely feeling it because while the prices of things are going up, folks’ wages aren’t going up to reflect that. We see a lot more people out here because of that,” said Maxwell.<\/p>\n
In west central Fresno, Councilmember Annalisa Perea partnered with John Steinbeck Elementary School to give away 2,000 turkeys over the weekend.<\/p>\n
It was a gesture appreciated by Fresno families.<\/p>\n
“Really hard because my kids want things, but I just can’t get them because of the economy and the cost of how much everything is,” said Fresno resident, Marciela Villalobos.<\/p>\n
