MILPITAS \u2014 A man died in custody Sunday afternoon at the Elmwood Correctional Complex, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The 33-year-old man, who had been in custody since Feb. 14 after an arrest by the San Jose Police Department, was found unresponsive in his housing unit at 2:56 p.m., according to a press release from the Santa Clara County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Medical personnel and jail staff performed CPR on the man until the arrival of emergency personnel from the Milpitas Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services at 3:09 p.m., authorities said.<\/p>\n
The man was pronounced deceased at 3:31 p.m., authorities said.<\/p>\n
The man\u2019s identity will be released pending notification of his family, authorities said. They did not release information about the criminal investigation that led to his arrest.<\/p>\n
The death is under investigation by the Sheriff\u2019s Office, authorities added. Based on preliminary information, investigators do not believe that foul play or suspicious circumstances were involved.<\/p>\n
