A pair of U.S. Department of Homeland Security agents visited the Cherryland Elementary School campus in Hayward last week looking for information about a student and then left on their own, according to school officials.<\/p>\n

The agents came onto campus at about 9:30 a.m. on Friday with a subpoena looking for information about the student, according to Hayward Unified School District spokesperson Michael Bazeley.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs per our protocol, the principal contacted the superintendent\u2019s office, who contacted our legal counsel,\u201d Bazeley said in an email. \u201cWe accepted the subpoena, but did not share any information at that time. The two officers left without incident.\u201d<\/p>\n

The campus wasn\u2019t placed on lockdown but officials alerted the school community about the encounter and representatives from the Alameda County Immigration Legal Education Partnership showed up to gather information and provide support, Bazeley said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Following their departure, the DHS agents were seen knocking on doors in the area but eventually left, apparently without taking anyone into custody, according to ACILEP.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for DHS didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.<\/p>\n

This was the second time this week that federal agents were operating in or around an East Bay elementary school campus.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Hoover Elementary School and nearby Harriet Tubman Preschool in West Oakland were placed on lockdown<\/a> by administrators and some kids were sent home early following federal immigration enforcement activity nearby.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In that case, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in an unmarked SUV tried to pull over a grandfather who had apparently just dropped of a child at school<\/a>. The man fled and the agents chased him until he allegedly crashed into a parked car a couple of blocks away and took off on foot.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
