Fieldwork Brewing Co.<\/a>, the popular Berkeley-based craft brewery, has officially opened\u00a0its first taproom in Sonoma County.<\/p>\n

Nearly a year in the making, the new 4,032-square-foot Montgomery Village location<\/a> occupies the former Cattleman\u2019s restaurant space, which has been undergoing major renovations\u00a0since January.<\/p>\n

The Santa Rosa taproom is the brewery\u2019s ninth in a roster that includes Napa, Corte Madera, Sacramento, San Mateo, San Ramon, San Leandro, Monterey and West Berkeley. Two additional locations are slated to open in San Francisco next month, with one outside Giants Stadium in China Basin and another in Mission Rock.<\/p>\n

CEO Barry Braden, who cofounded Fieldwork with Alex Tweet in 2015, is the man behind the company\u2019s successful expansion, which was temporarily paused during the pandemic. But four years after eyeing Sonoma County as a potential location, the Santa Rosa taproom has finally come to fruition.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re really thankful and excited to get to this point after so many months,\u201d said Braden during a friends-and-family gathering on Friday. \u201cWe had about 600 local folks preregister for our loyalty program on Instagram, so we invited them to a preview event this weekend to help us work out the kinks.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Sonoma County\u2019s taproom tally hovers around 28, according to the Sonoma County Economic Development Collaborative, none served the Montgomery Village neighborhood. That\u2019s made family-friendly Fieldwork a welcome addition to the expanding shopping district, which has seen an influx of new shops and restaurants over the last 12 months.<\/p>\n

On the menu is a rotating lineup of about 24 quaffable, ultra-fresh beers, from pilsners and sours to hazy and West Coast IPAs, Belgians, stouts and porters. On a recent visit, the triple dry-hopped Pulp Gold Label hazy IPA ($8.50 per pint) was a juicy, tropical delight with loads of tangelo, passion fruit and ripe mango.<\/p>\n

My husband hoarded a pint of West Coast Slang ($8.50 per pint), a double dry-hopped IPA loaded with Mosaic, Simcoe, Nelson and Strata hops. Before I had the chance to sample it, he\u2019d gulped it down, praising the brew\u2019s \u201cgreat balance of hoppiness and malt.\u201d<\/p>\n

A key player in Fieldwork\u2019s continued success is its expanded offering of nonalcoholic beers, including the crushable NA Encore Hazy IPA ($15.99 per four-pack). In October, the company announced a multiyear partnership<\/a> with the San Jose Sharks, making Fieldwork the hockey team\u2019s official nonalcoholic craft beer.<\/p>\n

The brewery\u2019s collection of sodas and Supertonic mocktails is also available at the Santa Rosa taproom, including the brisk Cucumber, Melon & Juniper spritz with GABA. Other flavors include Passionfruit and Orange Bitters; Blood Orange, Pomegranate and Rosemary; and sparkling Lime with Salt.<\/p>\n

A menu of standout starters \u2013 such as crispy cauliflower, hot pretzels and fried pickles \u2013 along with salads, wraps and pizzas ensures you won\u2019t go hungry.<\/p>\n

Erin Callahan, the Santa Rosa taproom\u2019s general manager, used to manage Donkey & Goat Winery, which is next door to Fieldwork\u2019s Berkeley location. Residing in Sonoma County since 2020, she was excited to see the brewery was opening a location in Santa Rosa.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve known Barry and the Fieldwork team for about 10 years, and I knew how wonderful they are,\u201d she said. \u201cI love working for a company that is so community-centered and focused on\u00a0bringing people together. It\u2019s a total blessing I get to be a part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
