(File photo courtesy Onscene.Media)<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdsheriff.gov\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a> has been awarded a $400,000 grant as part of a statewide initiative to help reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on the road, it was announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ots.ca.gov\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">California Office of Traffic Safety<\/a> for their support on the San Diego County Sheriff\u2019s Office\u2019s efforts to combat impaired driving in San Diego County,\u201d Sheriff Kelly Martinez said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The grant will be used to fund the following initiatives:<\/p>\n<p>DUI checkpoints and patrols focused on distressing impaired drivers;<\/p>\n<p>High-visibility distracted driving enforcement operations targeting in violation of California\u2019s hands-free cell phone law;<\/p>\n<p>Enforcement operations focused on the most dangerous behaviors that put the safety of people biking or walking at risk;<\/p>\n<p>Enforcement operations focused on speeding, failure to yield, stop sign and\/or red-light running;<\/p>\n<p>Community presentations on traffic safety issues such as distracted driving, impaired, speeding and bicycle safety;<\/p>\n<p>Collaborative enforcement efforts with neighboring agencies, and;<\/p>\n<p>Officer training.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough focused traffic enforcement and education, we\u2019re working towards a future where everyone will be safe on California roads,\u201d OTS Director Stephanie Dougherty said. \u201cBy encouraging people to prioritize safety in their daily choices, we are creating a strong road safety culture together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n<p>The grant program will run through September 2026.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT\n\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The scene from a double fatality crash on the SB 15 through Deer Springs.
