\n County of San Diego affirms that vaccines are not linked to
\n autism. We remain committed to ensuring residents continue to
\n have access to safe and effective vaccines that are based on
\n credible, transparent, and science-based
\n evidence.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, a coronavirus
\n discovered in 2019.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 most often causes respiratory symptoms that can feel much
\n like a cold, the flu, or pneumonia. Other parts of your body may also
\n be affected by the disease. Most people with COVID-19 have mild
\n symptoms, but some people become severely ill.<\/p>\n

The California Department of Public Health\u00a0(CDPH)\u00a0continues to
\n recommend that everyone ages 6 months and older should have access to
\n receive the COVID-19 vaccine. CDPH also emphasizes the importance of
\n additional protection for groups at higher risk of severe illness
\n including: \u00a0<\/p>\n

You can also take simple everyday steps to protect
\n yourself and others<\/a>\u2014like covering your mouth when you cough or
\n sneeze, washing your hands regularly, improving indoor air quality,
\n and staying home and away from others if you’re feeling sick.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 mainly spreads\u00a0from person to person through tiny droplets
\n in the air.<\/p>\n

When someone who is sick with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes, or
\n talks, the droplets go into the air. Other people can breathe them
\n in or get them in their eyes, nose, or mouth. Sometimes,
\n the droplets land on things. If someone touches those things and
\n then touches their face, they might get sick too. <\/p>\n

People with COVID-19 have many different symptoms, from mild to
\n serious.\u00a0 Symptoms usually show up 2-14 days after being exposed to
\n the virus.<\/p>\n

This list does not include every possible symptom. Symptoms can
\n change with new COVID-19 variants and may be different depending on
\n whether you\u2019re vaccinated.<\/p>\n

If you have symptoms or were exposed to someone with COVID-19 and
\n have developed symptoms, test immediately. Testing can help you know
\n if you have COVID-19 so you can decide what to do next.<\/p>\n

Getting a COVID-19 Test
\n Buy a self-test (at-home test). \u200b\u200bBuy at-home tests
\n online at pharmacies or in \u00a0stores. If you have health
\n insurance, it may cover \u00a0the cost of the test.\u202f Most
\n at-home tests can be safely used past the date on the box. Check
\n the \u00a0Food
\n and Drug Administration (FDA) website<\/a> to see if your
\n COVID-19 test\u2019s expiration date has been extended.
\n Go to a testing site in your community.<\/p>\n

Treating COVID-19<\/p>\n

Most people with COVID-19 have mild illness and can recover at
\n home.\u00a0You can treat\u00a0symptoms\u00a0with over-the-counter medicines to help
\n you feel better.<\/p>\n

There are also\u00a0treatments\u00a0available that may help reduce how sick
\n you become if you get COVID\u201119. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration
\n has authorized, or approved, several\u00a0antiviral
\n medications<\/a>.\u00a0These medications\u00a0treat mild to moderate COVID-19
\n in people who are more likely to get very sick.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n People who are more likely to get very sick include:<\/p>\n

Older adults, 50+ especially those 65+ years of age.
\n People who are unvaccinated or not up-to-date with the COVID-19
\n vaccinations. People with certain medical conditions, such as
\n chronic lung disease, heart disease, or a weakened immune
\n system. <\/p>\n

Being vaccinated makes it much less likely that you\u2019ll get very
\n sick. But studies have shown that treatment can still help, even if
\n you\u2019re vaccinated.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0healthcare provider will help decide which treatment, if any, is
\n right for you.<\/p>\n

\n

Don’t delay!\u00a0Treatment works best when started as early as
\n possible \u2013 within 5-7 days after you first develop symptoms.\u00a0<\/p>\n
