Authorities in Santa Barbara County<\/a> launched a search for a 9-year-old girl who has not been seen in a year, and who has not been seen in a photograph in two.<\/p>\n

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a> began searching for Melodee Buzzard on Tuesday after a school administrator reported she hadn\u2019t been at school in quite some time.<\/p>\n

Deputies attempted to contact Melodee and her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, at their home in Lompoc<\/a>, but the elementary school student was not there, and \u201cno clear explanation was provided for her whereabouts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although the missing persons case is only one-day-old, detectives have been unable to confirm a single recent sighting in about a year. The most recent photograph they were able to locate was taken at least two years ago, officials said.<\/p>\n

The Sheriff\u2019s Office is urging anyone with information about Melodee, potential sightings or contact in the past year, to come forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven small details may be critical in helping investigators ensure her safety,\u201d the Sheriff\u2019s Office wrote in a news release.<\/p>\n

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 805-681-4150. Anonymous tips can be provided online<\/a> or by calling 805-681-4171.<\/p>\n

At this time, the Sheriff\u2019s Office has not said if foul play is suspect or if Melodee\u2019s disappearance is considered suspicious. She is currently described as being \u201cat-risk.\u201d<\/p>\n
