“Like many small, local spots, we were hit hard by the pandemic, and our business just hasn’t bounced back to the level needed to keep things going,” The Lodge said in a social media post. “It’s not a decision we wanted to make, but it has to be.”<\/p>\n

The Lodge joins a growing list of alcohol-focused establishments that have shuttered in recent months.<\/p>\n
Saturday will be the final day for Roses’ Taproom after rent and operational costs proved too expensive to bear<\/a>. A nationally acclaimed Oakland bar<\/a> Friends and Family’s will close Dec. 30, after a “devastatingly slow” summer ushered the permanent closure. In July, a trio of bars called it quits<\/a>, including District, a popular ballpark-adjacent pregame spot that served Giants fans for over 18 years.<\/p>\n The percentage of Americans who reported drinking alcohol hit a nearly 90-year low<\/a>, according to an August Gallup poll. Only 54% of Americans said they drank any alcohol at all, down from 67% in 2022, and falls below the previous record low of 55% in 1958.<\/p>\n Despite the recent litany of brewery closures, beer remained the most preferred alcoholic drink and wine was the least favored. Wine industry experts are anticipating a slow decline<\/a> for vineyards and wineries. Many popular tasting rooms have closed this year, including two from The Duckhorn Portfolio<\/a>, one of Napa Valley’s most prominent wine companies.<\/p>\n
