The Fresno State basketball team suffered yet another heart breaker on Sunday afternoon, faltering down the stretch against Cal State-Bakersfield, in a 76-71 loss.<\/p>\n
After building an 11-point lead with a little over eight minutes left in the contest, Fresno State couldn\u2019t buy a bucket, while CSU-Bakersfield sank just about everything.<\/p>\n
In the first half, it was Zaon Collins scoring 13 points to help Fresno State to a 40-34 halftime lead. In the second half, Collins would have a harder time finding his rhythm, going 1-for-5 from the field in the second stanza, scoring just four points, with two coming from the free throw line.<\/p>\n
The Bulldogs would go 3-for-11 from the field over the final nine minutes to squander a 58-47 lead.<\/p>\n
Jake Heidbreder did his best to keep the Bulldogs close down the stretch, but he was without help. The senior guard scored 13 of his game high 20 points in the second half, but with no one else breaking above 10 in the second half, the Bulldogs couldn\u2019t hold on.<\/p>\n
The Bulldogs also committed 16 turnovers in the loss, to just 10 by CSU-Bakersfield.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m disappointed for the fans. We\u2019ve been playing pretty darn good basketball and today we kinda laid an egg,\u201d head coach Vance Walberg said after the game.<\/p>\n
The loss is a disappointing one in that the Bulldogs had won four games in a row and were facing a 3-4 Bakersfield team.<\/p>\n
With the loss, Fresno State is now 6-3 on the season and will have six days off before returning to the floor. That game will be on Saturday against Arkansas in Little Rock.
