BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) \u2014 Southbound Highway 99 is closed south of Bear Mountain Road Monday morning due to officers shooting at a high-speed chase suspect, according to the California Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n
Officials with CHP say the high-speed chase was first in the hands of the Wasco Police Department but was later taken over by CHP.<\/p>\n
A male suspect was reported to have shot at CHP officers before being spike stripped in efforts to stop the suspect\u2019s vehicle.<\/p>\n
After a successful attempt at stopping the vehicle, the suspect pulled over and continued shooting at officers. Officials with the CHP said officers fired back at the suspect.<\/p>\n
According to CHP, the suspect is dead. No one else was injured.<\/p>\n
CHP advises drivers to use alternate routes and the Highway 223 exit if you are already travelling southbound.<\/p>\n
CHP says there is no estimated time of the highway reopening.<\/p>\n
