(File photo by Chris Stone\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p>The closely-watched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/spdji\/en\/index-family\/indicators\/sp-cotality-case-shiller\/#overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Case-Shiller Index<\/a> of national home prices shows a continued decline in San Diego amid a \u201cnew equilibrium of minimal price growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The latest report, released just before Thanksgiving, showed local home prices falling 0.9% in September \u2014 the fifth monthly decline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeptember\u2019s monthly performance was uniformly weak,\u201d said Nicholas Godec of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/spdji\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P Dow Jones Indices<\/a>. \u201cAll 20 tracked metros posted month-over-month declines before seasonal adjustment, with Tampa (-1.0%), San Diego (-0.9%), and Seattle (-0.9%) leading the downturn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other housing market indicators showed the same weakness, with <a href=\"http:\/\/zillow.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zillow<\/a> noting \u201chome shoppers this fall are seeing some of the steepest price cuts in years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The online real estate service said San Diego is one of five markets seeing major price reductions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest median discounts from initial list price appear in some of the nation\u2019s most expensive markets:\u00a0San Jose\u00a0($70,900),\u00a0Los Angeles\u00a0($61,000),\u00a0San Francisco\u00a0($59,001),\u00a0New York\u00a0($50,000)\u00a0and\u00a0San Diego\u00a0($50,000),\u201d said Zillow Senior Economist\u00a0Kara Ng.<\/p>\n<p>Godec noted that since June, national home prices have grown less than the rate of inflation, and gap is widening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith mortgage rates stubbornly elevated and affordability at multi-decade lows, the market<br \/>appears to be settling into a new equilibrium of minimal price growth \u2014 or, in some regions, outright decline,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A house is for sale in San Carlos area.
