(File photo by Chris Stone\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0If you\u2019re thinking about a quick trip to the Pacific Northwest, 2026 might be a great year to plan it. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.southwest.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Southwest Airlines<\/a> has announced that it intends to expand its presence at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.san.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego International Airport<\/a>, offering more flights than ever before on peak days in August and September of next year: 139 scheduled departures.<\/p>\n<p>The airline said that as part of its expansion, it will double its daily roundtrip flights between\u00a0San Diego\u00a0and\u00a0Portland,\u00a0Salt Lake City, and\u00a0Seattle, launching Aug. 4, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>It will also begin once-daily service between San Diego and Santa Barbara on that same date \u2014 its 44th destination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor more than 25 years, we\u2019ve served more destinations and carried more customers than any other airline in California,\u201d said\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/edge.prnewswire.com\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4566049-1&amp;h=1587803740&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.swamedia.com%2Fabout-southwest%2Four-leadership%2Fadam-decaire-MCSMRMJT26G5HOVG4PR4LXRUMEBY&amp;a=Adam+Decaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Adam Decaire<\/a>, a senior vice president at Southwest Airlines, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southwestairlinesinvestorrelations.com\/news-events\/press-releases\/detail\/1908\/the-golden-state-growth-goes-on-book-on-southwest-today-for-late-summer-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a statement.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew facilities like those in San Diego and Burbank, along with our onboard customer enhancements, have Southwest positioned to continue offering more for customers in Southern California and beyond for many years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The airline is also adding peak-day service between\u00a0Ontario and Burbank airports\u00a0and\u00a0Honolulu in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The timing coincides roughly with the opening of San Diego Airport\u2019s new Terminal 1.<\/p>\n<p> Southwest Airlines offers services at 117 airports, including SDX, in 11 countries.
