A major Japanese market will soon open in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2024\/01\/15\/the-hottest-things-to-do-in-emeryville-in-2024-using-a-free-shuttle-bus\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emeryville<\/a>, with not just groceries but imported beauty and health products.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tokyocentral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tokyo Central<\/a> will hold its grand opening on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 2026, at the <a href=\"https:\/\/baystreetemeryville.com\/portfolio\/tokyo-central-market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Bay Street Emeryville shopping complex<\/a>, according to a mall representative. The bottom-level store is located at 5603 Bay St. in a newly built 40,000-square-foot-plus anchor building, with a rooftop given over to roughly 110 parking spots.<\/p>\n<p>The store will stock fresh Japanese produce and staples \u2014 purple sweet potatoes, Koshihikari rice, Kurobuta pork belly \u2014 as well as made-to-order and take-away meals (including sushi), health items and beauty products, including ever-so-crucial Korean-beauty lines.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be an \u201cupscale dining establishment serving fresh and authentic Japanese cuisine,\u201d according to Bay Street Emeryville, though its identity is yet known. While there are about half a dozen Tokyo Centrals in the Los Angeles region, there\u2019s only one other in the Bay Area, in Cupertino. For <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/location\/california\/bay-area\/east-bay\/alameda-county\/emeryville\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emeryville<\/a>, this massive Asian grocery will be a citywide first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe addition of an Asian grocer at Bay Street Emeryville bolsters CenterCal Properties\u2019 commitment to reimagine the merchandising of their properties to reflect the communities they serve \u2014 especially in the culturally rich Bay Area where Asians make up the second-largest demographic profile in the region,\u201d the commercial real-estate company behind the shopping company <a href=\"https:\/\/baystreetemeryville.com\/news-press\/centercal-properties-announces-the-addition-of-tokyo-central-to-bay-street-emeryville-in-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from stocking Japanese pantry staples, beer and sake and other things, Tokyo Central is known for holding special sales and events.
