(WLOX) &#8211; Long Beach is moving forward with plans to ease congestion at one of its busiest intersections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">During a special meeting on Wednesday, city leaders discussed adding a turning lane at the intersection of East Railroad Street and Jeff Davis Avenue. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The new design will create three lanes at the stop sign \u2014 one for drivers waiting to cross the tracks, and two for those continuing east or west.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"The plan includes adding a turn lane at the intersection of East Railroad Street and Jeff...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ORG3MAZDY5G5BAEI7XVCMXLQ7Y.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>The plan includes adding a turn lane at the intersection of East Railroad Street and Jeff Davis Avenue.(WLOX)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials said the change should help reduce major backups, especially during train crossings or rush hour. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThings are happening in Long Beach, and I appreciate everyone\u2019s patience because progress is sometimes a little bit painful,\u201d said Mayor Tim Pierce. \u201cEverything we do is for the long term, and we are moving Long Beach forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Pierce said a new design is needed because the current traffic pattern causes major delays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cTraffic just backs up for blocks, and so what this will allow is for traffic to pull into the third lane and allow the east-west traffic to continue,\u201d said Pierce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There is no official start date for the project, but city officials expect it to be completed within the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">See a spelling or grammar error in this story?
