(Photo by Adrian Childress\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p>A 74-year-old man already in custody on suspicion of committing a 2023 South Bay murder has been named a person of interest in the probe into human remains found earlier this week on a Southcrest property.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes one day after investigators scoured a property at 3443 Newton Ave. after California Highway Patrol detectives \u201cdeveloped information leading investigators to suspect human remains were on the property,\u201d the <a href=\"http:\/\/San Diego Police Department\" rel=\"nofollow\">San Diego Police Department<\/a> said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The identity of the remains and the person\u2019s cause of death are still under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The person of interest named Wednesday, Dwight William Rhone, is already in custody without bail on murder and other charges for allegedly shooting 54-year-old Bernardo Moreno on Interstate 5, near state Route 905, then setting Moreno\u2019s body on fire on Oct. 13, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The San Diego County District Attorney\u2019s Office said Rhone was a previous tenant of the Newton Avenue address.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information regarding Rhone\u2019s potential involvement in \u201cadditional crimes\u201d was asked to call the San Diego Police Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdcrimestoppers.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Crime Stoppers<\/a> at 888-580-8477.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timesofsandiego.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Southcrest-2.jpg?ssl=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Southcrest-2.jpg\" alt=\"A street under an overpass with parked cars, a police canopy tent, a mobile command vehicle, and a person in an FBI jacket.\" class=\"wp-image-358089\"  \/><\/a>Law enforcement, including FBI, surround the Southcrest property.
