{"id":81379,"date":"2025-12-04T14:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T14:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/81379\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T14:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T14:54:09","slug":"marco-rubio-ron-desantis-far-behind-with-california-republicans-looking-at-2028","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/81379\/","title":{"rendered":"Marco Rubio, Ron DeSantis far behind with California Republicans looking at 2028"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The state had 169 GOP Convention delegates in 2024.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A new survey of California Republicans shows Vice President <a href=\"http:\/\/jdvance.com\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">JD Vance<\/a> with majority support if the state\u2019s winner-takes-all Presidential Primary were held today, while two Florida men trail well behind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vance has 52% in the Emerson College poll, while other names tested are more niche.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Secretary of State\u00a0Marco Rubio is in second place with 11%. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. is third at 10%, and Gov. Ron DeSantis\u2019\u00a06% is good for fourth place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An additional 12% don\u2019t know who they want, while 9% want someone else in the poll of 339 likely Primary voters conducted Dec. 1 and 2.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rubio is gaining support, up from 4% in Emerson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/750751-ron-desantis-rfk-battle-for-distant-second-place-in-2028-california-primary-poll\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">August poll<\/a>. DeSantis is down from 9%.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fau.edu\/r1?utm_source=banner&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=florida_politics_feb10&amp;utm_id=fau100&amp;utm_content=728x90\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-721283\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/FloridaAtlantic-728x90-R1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both Rubio and DeSantis have sidestepped any talk of future presidential ambitions. Rubio has said Vance would be a \u201cgreat nominee,\u201d with President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/750398-donald-trump-urges-jd-vance-marco-rubio-to-get-together-for-2028\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0suggesting Rubio as\u00a0\u201csomebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">DeSantis currently says he\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/766309-not-thinking-about-anything-ron-desantis-talks-2028-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">not thinking about anything<\/a>\u201d regarding a 2028 run, and criticized \u201cjockeying\u201d among those who look to succeed Trump. However, he also left the door open to running again after he withdrew from the presidential race last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Emerson also polled Democrats, and favorite son\u00a0Gavin Newsom (a familiar foil for DeSantis) dominates with 36% support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pete Buttigieg\u2019s 16% is good for second, followed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (13%) and former Vice President Kamala Harris (9%), the latter of whom also is from the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The state had 169 GOP Convention delegates in 2024.
