BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 The Kern County District Attorney\u2019s Office has been awarded an $885,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to support a specialized DUI and drug-impaired prosecution team. <\/p>\n
The DA’s Office reported filing over 3,500 DUI cases in fiscal year 2025, including more than 200 DUI drug cases and nearly 130 cases involving both alcohol and drugs. The specialized team will continue its collaboration with the statewide Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Training Program to provide training for prosecutors and investigators across California.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the team will work with law enforcement agencies to improve best practices for managing DUI cases and will have the resources to prosecute all felony DUI cases. <\/p>\n
District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer stated, “Driving under the influence continues to present one of the greatest threats to the Kern County community. We are thankful to receive funding for the fourteenth consecutive year, as it equips the District Attorney\u2019s Office with the resources needed to prosecute felony DUI cases, enhance collaboration with law-enforcement partners, and work toward reducing the devastating tragedies that affect our community.” <\/p>\n
The grant program will run through September 2026, marking the fourteenth year the office has received funding from the California OTS for the initiative. <\/p>\n
