SAN JOSE \u2014 A woman died after she was hit by a motorist while walking across Highway 101 early Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n
The collision was reported at 1:16 a.m. in the northbound lanes south of the Santa Clara Street and Alum Rock Avenue offramp, the CHP stated in a news release.<\/p>\n
An initial investigation determined that the woman was a pedestrian, and not associated with any nearby vehicle, when she was seen walking east across the 10-lane roadway before the driver of a 2017 Infiniti tried to swerve around her but ultimately hit her.<\/p>\n
The woman died at the scene. Her name was not publicly released pending her formal identification and notification of her next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
The driver stopped at the scene, and the CHP said there is no sign that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.<\/p>\n
