{"id":83682,"date":"2025-12-06T03:20:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-06T03:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/83682\/"},"modified":"2025-12-06T03:20:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-06T03:20:07","slug":"testing-reveals-presence-of-legionella-in-oakland-county-sheriffs-admin-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/83682\/","title":{"rendered":"Testing reveals presence of Legionella in Oakland County sheriff\u2019s admin building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. \u2013 Testing confirmed the presence of Legionella bacteria in the Oakland County Sheriff\u2019s Office administration building, officials said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Oakland County health officials said they received water test results late on Thursday, Dec. 4, that confirmed the presence of the bacteria in the Sheriff\u2019s Administration Building 38 East in Pontiac, according to a news release from the county.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The testing came after an employee tested positive for Legionnaires\u2019 disease. The building where this employee worked isn\u2019t open to the public, officials said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cOakland County\u2019s top priority is the health and safety of our employees,\u201d said Oakland County Health Officer Kate Guzman. \u201cThere is no immediate risk to the public and we are taking all necessary steps to address the Legionella found in the building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">As a precaution, the affected building will remain closed through the weekend while county crews implement remediation measures to reduce the presence of Legionella. The county said it will continue testing to monitor the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Last April, a non-county employee tested positive for Legionnaires\u2019 disease and had visited the Oakland County Circuit Court Building during their exposure period. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Since then, no other cases linked to the courthouse have been reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">However, the county still plans to test water sources in the courthouse as a precaution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Legionella bacteria are commonly found in natural and man-made water environments.
