Right-handed pitcher Zac Gallen has gained significant interest from multiple Major League Baseball teams as he enters free agency. Despite a less-than-ideal season, Gallen has attracted attention from the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels, and Detroit Tigers, according to reports.

Gallen’s Career Overview

Gallen, who turned 30 in August, previously earned recognition as a Cy Young finalist and an All-Star. He declined a qualifying offer from the Arizona Diamondbacks and is now available on the open market.

In the 2025 season, Gallen faced challenges early on, which contributed to a 5.60 ERA prior to the trade deadline. However, he concluded the season on a positive note with a 3.32 ERA over his final 11 starts.

Walk Rate: 7.1%

Home Runs Allowed: 23 in the first 127 innings

Despite a rocky start, Gallen’s durability stands out. He has only been on the injured list three times throughout his career, showcasing his reliability as a starter. Gallen started 33 games in 2025 and ranks among the top pitchers concerning total innings pitched since 2022.

Teams Showing Interest

The Giants are looking to bolster their rotation and have had discussions with Gallen’s representatives. They are hesitant to commit to lengthy contracts, preferring players who can provide innings without the risk of an extensive financial commitment.

San Francisco Giants: In need of rotation help, the Giants have evaluated their options and see Gallen as a viable candidate.

Los Angeles Angels: The Angels aim to strengthen their starting pitching, with Gallen potentially adding depth behind established veterans.

Detroit Tigers: With a solid core and financial flexibility, the Tigers could benefit from Gallen’s experience.

Potential Future Contracts

The expectations for Gallen’s next contract may vary. Reports suggest he could negotiate a multi-year deal, possibly lasting four years, depending on his willingness to take risks regarding the contract structure. Options may include multi-year agreements with opt-out clauses.

Conclusion

Gallen’s performance has not deterred interest from several clubs, and his track record of durability continues to be an asset.
