A young man was shot to death by police and another person was hit with a non-lethal round in Anaheim, authorities said Sunday.<\/p>\n
Two officers from the Anaheim Police Department\u2019s Gang Enforcement Unit were on patrol when they contacted several people in front of a residence in the 800 block of South Philadelphia Street at 9:32 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Matt Sutter said.<\/p>\n
The location is a few blocks east of Anaheim Boulevard, near the Anaheim Packing District.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the encounter, a confrontation occurred, leading to an officer-involved shooting,\u201d police said. \u201cA male adult was struck by gunfire and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm was located at the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n
The victim, who was said to be about 19 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
The confrontation and shooting triggered an unruly crowd, and at least a dozen people were detained. One person was struck by a non-lethal round during the confrontation and taken to a hospital as a precaution, police added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe officers involved in the initial shooting incident suffered minor injuries,\u201d Sutter said.<\/p>\n
