FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — One person is injured after a fire consumed a decades-old two-story abandoned building near the area of Tulare and F streets in Fresno’s Chinatown on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
According to Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Keola Park, one person jumped out of the second-floor window to escape the fire. They were provided with emergency aid and taken to the hospital with a broken leg.<\/p>\n
Nearly 50 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze.<\/p>\n
Ladder trucks were positioned at the north and south ends of the building to prevent embers from spreading the blaze to other buildings.<\/p>\n
The size of the building caused the flames to give off an extreme amount of heat that could be felt from more than 200 feet away.<\/p>\n
Fresno Fire says the building had experienced multiple fires in the past, making the structure unstable. Portions of the building collapsed, and nearby power lines were threatened.<\/p>\n
PG&E has shut off power to several surrounding buildings and businesses, including Central Fish Market. They are currently working to restore power to the area.<\/p>\n
The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n
