(File photo courtesy San Diego County Sheriff\u2019s Office)<\/p>\n<p>A report of possible gunfire near <a href=\"https:\/\/mountmiguel.guhsd.net\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mount Miguel High School<\/a> prompted a brief lockdown of the campus Thursday while officials investigated, finding no evidence of a shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Someone reported hearing what sounded like a firearm discharging in the general area of the school in the 8000 block of Blossom Lane in the Spring Valley area shortly before 10:30 a.m.\u00a0Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeputies conducted a walkthrough and clearing of all buildings and areas of the school campus but found no weapon or evidence of a firearm being discharged,\u201d a release from the San Diego County Sheriff\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdsheriff.gov\/Home\/Components\/News\/News\/3753\/514\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>. \u201cThe school lockdown was lifted a short time later. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one was hurt,\u201d the release added. <\/p>\n<p>School administrators directed students and staffers to remain secured in their classrooms and offices while deputies investigated, the department said. <\/p>\n<p>At that point, normal operations resumed at the campus.<\/p>\n<p>The case was being investigated as a possible instance of swatting \u2013 a type of malicious and false crime report intended to trigger an emergency response on the part of law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>City News Service contributed to this report.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT\n\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A badge for a San Diego sheriff\u2019s deputy.
