{"id":86562,"date":"2025-12-08T20:21:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T20:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/86562\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T20:21:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T20:21:09","slug":"glow-up-for-pontiac-courthouse-the-oakland-press","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/86562\/","title":{"rendered":"Glow up for Pontiac courthouse \u2013 The Oakland Press"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Winter\u2019s gloom is dispelled for visitors entering Oakland County\u2019s 50th District Court in Pontiac by a new mural called \u201cInterwoven Blooms,\u201d a triptych-style depiction of giant, lush floral blossoms across the front of the building. Artist Zach Curtis used saturated purples, bright pink, yellow and orange for the three murals.<\/p>\n<p>Curtis was commissioned for the work through the Detroit Institute of Arts\u2019 Partners in Public Art program.<\/p>\n<p>The DIA\u2019s Partners in Public Art program works with artists to create highly visible public murals in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties\u2019 communities. This year, Chesterfield, Fraser, Lathrup Village, Southfield, Wayne, Dearborn, Trenton were selected, in addition to Pontiac.<\/p>\n<p>DIA public affairs director Julie McFarland said the mural celebrates Pontiac and it\u2019s one way the DIA gives back to supportive communities.<\/p>\n<p>Pontiac Deputy Mayor Khalfani Stephens said the project makes sense.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"close up of painted rose\" width=\"2500\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/TOP-L-PontiacArt1208-06.jpg\" data-attachment-id=\"2648552\" \/>Oakland County 50th District Court, 70 N. (Peg McNichol \/ MediaNews Group)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArt is life,\u201d he said, adding that the city is grateful to the DIA and artists like Curtis for bringing \u201cbeauty, vibrancy, and inspiration to our communities\u201d that liven downtown buildings.<\/p>\n<p>This week\u2019s celebration at the courthouse is co-hosted by the Pontiac Arts Commission, the city council, and Main Street Pontiac, featuring Curtis and a DIA representative. The event, at 4 p.m. Dec. 10 at the 50th District Court, 70 N. Saginaw St, in Pontiac, includes light refreshments.<\/p>\n<p>The Partners in Public Art program is made possible by the Tri-County millage.
