Point Loma\u2019s newest grocery store, a Smart & Final, is opening Wednesday on Rosecrans Street.\n<\/p>\n
The 25,000-square-foot store is an example of what the chain calls its \u201csmaller, faster grocery warehouse\u201d experience. The store will sell groceries, convenience items and club-store style bulk foods and household goods, without requiring a membership fee.<\/p>\n
The chain has more than 20 stores in San Diego County. This one will replace its store at Midway Drive and Rosecrans Street.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is simple \u2013 to give customers more ways to save without sacrificing quality,\u201d Smart Final\u2019s district manager, Anthony Hofer, said in a news release. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to support families, small businesses, and the broader community as the neighborhood continues to evolve.\u201d<\/p>\n
The grocery chain was founded, under a different name, in 1871, and is now headquartered near Los Angeles in Commerce. It wants to be a part of Midway\u2019s changing texture, which it described in a news release as being \u201cin the midst of a transformation into a walkable entertainment, retail and residential hub.\u201d<\/p>\n
It also wants to be a destination for shoppers looking for value, whether they are households or business shoppers like restaurants or caterers.<\/p>\n
\u201cShoppers will find fresh produce, USDA-certified meats, pantry staples, beverages, cleaning supplies, and more, all available in both everyday and club-sized quantities to help stretch budgets further,\u201d the news release said.<\/p>\n
The company is marking the opening with two moves: One is a donation of $20,000 by the Smart & Final Charitable Foundation to four local nonprofits: San Diego Youth Services, Mama\u2019s Kitchen, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego and Generate Hope.<\/p>\n
Second, shoppers who make purchase on opening day will receive a free tote bag and may also win a gift card.<\/p>\n
This is one of around 250 Smart & Final stores. Its parent company, Chedraui USA, also owns El Super, with stores across the southwest including San Diego, and Fiesta Mart, in Texas.<\/p>\n
