BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 The Kern County Probation Department has secured a $260,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to implement an intensive probation supervision program for high-risk individuals with multiple DUI convictions. The program, which runs through September 2026, aims to address the complex issues surrounding repeat DUI offenders by providing supervision, resources, and guidance to break the cycle of alcohol-related offenses.<\/p>\n
The funding will support various initiatives, including check-ins with probationers to ensure compliance with court-ordered terms, warrant operations targeting probation violations and DUI suspects who fail to appear in court, alcohol testing, officer training in Standard Field Sobriety Testing (SFST), and the distribution of DUI “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) alerts. Additionally, the program will involve collaboration with courts and prosecutors to establish probation orders.<\/p>\n
Chief Probation Officer Bill Dickinson stated, “With the numerous ride options available, there is simply no excuse to drive while impaired.” He added that the grant will help ensure safer roadways for all Kern County residents.<\/p>\n
OTS Director Stephanie Dougherty stated, “By supporting efforts that help high-risk DUI offenders make safer daily choices, we are creating a strong road safety culture together.”<\/p>\n
