<\/p>\nBAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 A man was convicted Tuesday on several counts related to evading California Highway Patrol in a stolen vehicle in southwest Bakersfield in June, announced the Kern County District Attorney.<\/p>\n
On Dec. 9, 2025, Julio Arroyo was found guilty on two counts of felony evasion of a peace officer, felony driving a stolen motor vehicle, felony receiving stolen property, and misdemeanor resisting arrest. <\/p>\n
The incident on June 15, 2025, started when a CHP officer found a reported stolen truck driven by Arroyo and tried to perform a traffic stop. The DA said without hesitation, Arroyo immediately accelerated the truck and led the CHP officer on a lengthy and dangerous pursuit.<\/p>\n
Shortly later, Arroryo drove on the opposite side of traffic on both Stockdale Highway and New Stine Road, driving at over 70 miles an hour into oncoming traffic. Drivers were forced to move out of his way.<\/p>\n
He ran multiple red lights at over 50 miles per hour and nearly crashed into other vehicles several times.<\/p>\n
Arroyo eventually lost control of the stolen truck, crashing into three parked cars. The truck rolled over into a resident’s front yard, struck a brick wall, and rested against the home.<\/p>\n
He immediately jumped out of the disabled truck and ran on foot. The pursuing officers apprehended Arroyo and was taken into custody.<\/p>\n

\u201cArroyo\u2019s offense was aggravated when he evaded law enforcement and behaved in a manner that endangered not only the responding officer but also numerous community members. This reckless and careless conduct warrants serious criminal consequences,” stated Cynthia Zimmer, Kern County DA.<\/p>\n
