WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 A man in Kentucky<\/a> who stabbed a child was released from prison early due to \u201cgood behavior,\u201d but was re-arrested for violating his parole.<\/p>\n

Ronald Exantus, 42, was given 20 years in prison after he broke into a house in Kentucky and killed six-year-old Logan Tipton by stabbing him to death.<\/p>\n

He pleaded insanity and wasn\u2019t found guilty of murder, but was convicted on assault charges after he stabbed other family members, according to the New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Exantus got out of prison after serving just nine years of his 20-year sentence, but was arrested again earlier this year in Florida<\/a> after being released due to not registering as a convicted felon with the local sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

This incident has resulted in lawmakers and the family calling for reform with supervision laws when criminals get let out for good behavior.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnecdotally speaking, I\u2019ve seen people get good time credit for learning to play guitar \u2014 it was considered an educational credit which reduced the time of their sentence,\u201d Kentucky Commonwealth\u2019s Attorneys\u2019 Association president Ronnie Bowling said during a local TV interview. <\/p>\n

State Rep. Jason Nemes is attempting to introduce legislation to have those found guilty of a crime due to insanity, to go to a mental health clinic.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to make sure that we clean it up to say that if the jury finds that you committed the crime, but that you can\u2019t be held responsible and go to prison because of your you were insane at the time, which by the way we need to limit in and of itself,\u201d he said in an interview with local media<\/a>. \u201cBut if the jury makes that finding, then you can\u2019t go back out in our communities immediately.
