Authorities have released new details about a police response that left a 19-year-old dead and an 18-year-old injured in Anaheim over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Officers were conducting gang-suppression patrols around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when a group they attempted to contact on South Philadelphia Street ran toward a nearby residence, the Anaheim Police Department said in a Facebook post<\/a> Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Officers pursued and attempted to detain 19-year-old Alberto Arzola, who police said struggled with officers.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne officer discharged his firearm, and Mr. Arzola was pronounced deceased at the scene. A loaded assault-style firearm was recovered next to him,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n

A crowd formed immediately after the shooting, and more than a dozen people were detained<\/a> from the house where the shooting occurred.<\/p>\n

About 15 minutes later, police said 18-year-old Emmanuel Cordova jumped from the backyard into the front yard and ignored commands from officers.<\/p>\n

Police fired a single less-lethal beanbag round at Cordova, who was treated at a local hospital for a minor injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cA video circulating online shows the less-lethal incident involving Mr. Cordova, not the shooting of Mr. Arzola,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n

The incident is being reviewed by the Orange County District Attorney\u2019s Office, Anaheim Police Department detectives, Internal Affairs and the Major Incident Review Team.<\/p>\n
