All the impacts that any neighborhood would be concerned about are excess traffic. Road issues.I think just services in general, the constraints that go with that impact on things like water, groundwater, and probably some security concerns,” said Wathen.

And those were some reasons why the neighborhood was initially against the move.

But over the years, once the city started annexing surrounding neighborhoods, residents realized staying outside city limits could do more harm than good.

“We realized that it’s probably much better if we annex into the city, rather than being a county island, harder to serve by the county, fire, police, et cetera. And those services would be, we think, better with police and fire. And also, we have a significant water problem in our particular neighborhood, where people’s water wells are drying up. So being able to tap into city water was a significant consideration,” said Wathen.

If approved, the city will annex 40.62 acres of land located at the southeast corner of North Sunnyside Avenue and East Perrin Avenue.

“The outline that you see before you right now is our current sphere of influence, and the area that council will consider is this area here, the 18 rural residential properties, just north of Wilson’s single-family development,” said George Gonzalez, Clovis City Planner.

He says including these areas in the city could help address long-standing growth and housing issues.

“There’s a mixture of development, opportunity in Heritage Grove, including single-family, multi-family, commercial, and open space,” said Gonzalez.

“We need more houses, more supply. That I believe will soften prices and make homes more affordable. So I think it’s positive. I think it’s positive for our community,” said Wathen.

If the council approves the project, the next step is for staff to formally submit to the Fresno Local Agency Formation Commission for the approval of the annexation.

“We believe that it is much better for us as a neighborhood to be annexed into the city, given the direction that the city’s already taken,” said Wathan.

If successful, the area will be annexed and formally incorporated into the city of Clovis by the summer of 2026.

The city of Clovis may soon redraw the maps and expand the city limits, absorbing nearby neighborhoods City…

[31
112,114,113
0":"post-94825","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-fresno","8":"tag-fresno","9":"tag-fresno-headlines","10":"tag-fresno-news
["GET
