Is anybody looking out for Fresno Unified in this whole county?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2. Hmong New Year celebration turns 50 in Fresno<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fresnoland.org\/2025\/12\/15\/50-years-of-hmong-new-year-fresno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"586\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_9016.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-74156\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fresno\u2019s Hmong New Year celebrations will mark 50 years since many Hmong families arrived in the United States as refugees following the Vietnam War.<\/p>\n<p>Many remember the lives lost as Hmong refugees fled Laos in the 1970s, and many endured dangerous months in\u00a0 camps before resettling in the U.S., arriving as strangers in a country they helped during America\u2019s so called Secret War, <a href=\"https:\/\/fresnoland.org\/2025\/12\/15\/50-years-of-hmong-new-year-fresno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Fresnoland\u2019s Gisselle Medina reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the U.S., Hmong communities have reimagined the New Year celebration, blending traditional dances and hand-embroidered attire with authentic Hmong cuisine and cultural ceremonies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The largest Hmong New Year celebration in the U.S. happens every year at the Fresno County Fairgrounds. The event has previously attracted over 100,000 attendees from Minnesota, Utah, and across California in a single year. Organized by Hmong Inc., this year\u2019s celebration will take place daily Dec. 26 to 29.<\/p>\n<p>The Hmong Inc. CEO and President Toulu Thao: \u201cIt takes your memory back. Sadness because of what you went through, but also happiness, saying, \u2018Wow, gosh, we made it here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>3. \u2018We lose a part of our history\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"585\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_9878.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45053\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>After a structure built in the late 1800s burned down in Fresno\u2019s Chinatown last week, neighborhood advocates told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnobee.com\/news\/local\/article313552567.html#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Fresno Bee<\/a> that the owners of vacant buildings would do more to keep their properties properly secured.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They told The Bee that some owners of vacant buildings are practically impossible to find.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some unsecured buildings are often used by unhoused people looking for shelter, and in the winter months they sometimes illegally light warming fires inside.<\/p>\n<p>Jan Minami, executive director of the Chinatown Fresno Foundation: \u201cWe lose a part of our history.
