FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) \u2014 A Bobby Salazar\u2019s franchise has rebranded, cutting ties with its namesake as Fresno businessman Bobby Salazar continues his legal battle.<\/p>\n
The location on Champlain and Perrin in northeast Fresno is now \u201cMama Iguana\u2019s,\u201d operating under the same ownership as before: the Riofrio family.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe opened in November 2001. We\u2019ve been here for over 24 years. We don\u2019t plan to go anywhere anytime soon. We just have a name change and we\u2019re here to serve the community,\u201d Mama Iguana\u2019s owner, Suzie Riofrio said. \u201cMama Iguana\u2019s just had a ring to it. Let\u2019s go to Mama\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n
Riofrio says the change has brought some trouble with name recognition, leading to lower sales, especially on food delivery apps, but they reassure customers that not much has changed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have the same great staff and kitchen staff with high-quality, home-cooked food,\u201d Riofrio stated.<\/p>\n
Mama Iguana\u2019s announced the rebrand in September and officially parted ways in November.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe changed the name due to a mutual agreement to terminate our franchise with Bobby Salazar\u2019s Mexican Restaurant,\u201d Riofrio explained.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, Bobby Salazar has been the center of a criminal lawsuit since August, accused of hiring a local motorcycle gang leader last year to torch one of his namesake restaurants on Blackstone in central Fresno.<\/p>\n
