{"id":98861,"date":"2025-12-17T22:48:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T22:48:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/98861\/"},"modified":"2025-12-17T22:48:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T22:48:06","slug":"anaheims-new-police-chief-starts-dec-29-orange-county-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/98861\/","title":{"rendered":"Anaheim\u2019s new police chief starts Dec. 29 \u2013 Orange County Register"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new Anaheim chief of police has been selected to serve Orange County\u2019s most populated city.<\/p>\n<p>Manuel Cid, who currently heads Glendale\u2019s police force of 450 people, will soon assume the Anaheim Police Department\u2019s highest rank.<\/p>\n<p>Cid will become the city\u2019s 38th chief of police effective Dec. 29, when he fills the vacancy left by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2023\/07\/17\/anaheim-set-to-hire-new-police-chief\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chief Rick Armendariz,<\/a> who announced in July his plans to retire. He was appointed in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The City Council unanimously approved Cid\u2019s employment agreement on Dec. 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo this community, I am excited,\u201d Cid said after the vote. \u201cIt\u2019s very much my way that I will pour myself into this community, and I will be out and about, and these folks will get an opportunity, and I will get an opportunity to meet with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis organization and myself are going to work tirelessly to make sure that you feel safe to work, live and play in this amazing city,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Cid will receive an <a href=\"https:\/\/local.anaheim.net\/docs_agend\/questys_pub\/48169\/48199\/48201\/48342\/48417\/48417.1.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">annual base salary of $389,000 and about $47,000 more in annual benefits compensation<\/a>, which city officials say honors Cid\u2019s credentials and is \u201cwithin Anaheim\u2019s range for a chief of police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His base salary is about 10% more than what he was paid in Glendale, city officials said during the meeting. And the city will pay Cid an additional 12% of his base salary \u2014 roughly $46,000 annually \u2014 for his completion of the FBI National Academy, from which Armendariz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anaheim.net\/172\/Command-Staff\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">also graduated<\/a>. Armendariz<a href=\"https:\/\/local.anaheim.net\/docs_agend\/questys_pub\/38245\/38275\/38276\/38423\/38451\/1.%20Agreement38451.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2019s employment contract<\/a> with the city did not include compensation for having completed the program.<\/p>\n<p>Per his contract, Cid would receive a 12-month severance package if he were terminated without cause.<\/p>\n<p>It was mentioned during the council meeting that, with Cid now set to make more than his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anaheim.net\/DocumentCenter\/View\/3611\/Council-MembersExecutive-Manager-Salaries-Stipends-and-Benefits\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">boss, City Manager Jim Vanderpool<\/a>, who made about $386,000 this year, the city intends to adjust other executive salaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecognizing the compensation philosophy that\u2019s adopted by the City Council,\u201d Vanderpool said, \u201ccertainly there will be considerations for executive positions after the first of the year tied to class and comp at that percentile identified by the City Council.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Anaheim, Cid will lead the county\u2019s largest city police department and its 600 employees, including more than 430 sworn officers tasked with protecting more than 340,000 residents spanning 50 square miles.<\/p>\n<p>Cid also previously served as chief of the Culver City Police Department from 2020 to 2023. He has 20 years of law enforcement experience, advancing from the ranks of patrol to command staff.<\/p>\n<p>Cid holds a master\u2019s in public administration and organization from National University and a bachelor\u2019s in political science from Whittier College.
