As holiday shoppers gather last-minute gifts and families finalize plans with their loved ones next week, a system is quietly forming at the moment and may deliver wet weather to Southern California during the festivities.<\/p>\n
Christmas could be a wet one this year for the Southland since a jet stream resting above the region is expected to buckle, making way for some moisture, according to Meteorologist Melissa Magee.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we head into our weekend, we\u2019ve got more clouds around here in Southern California,\u201d she said. \u201cThere\u2019s a little stream of moisture; This is an atmospheric river that we\u2019re tracking as we head into our next week, and there\u2019s the potential of a storm system moving in, especially as we get into Christmas Eve — that\u2019s Wednesday — into our Thursday.\u201d<\/p>\n
The incoming system is hailing from the Pacific Northwest and is expected to make its way down south, prompting meteorologists to keep a close eye on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, according to Magee.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a system on the way,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is going to be a milder system so it\u2019s mostly rain. Not a whole lot of snow with this because we\u2019re tapping into a bit of an atmospheric river.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although the long-range forecast indicates the storm could happen on the holiday next week, it\u2019s too soon for precise predictions.<\/p>\n
