As trade season begins around the NBA, it\u2019s clear that the stumbling Sacramento Kings will be active in discussions with several teams in efforts to turn over a roster that is currently well under the .500 mark.<\/p>\n

The Athletic\u2018s Sam Amick<\/a> joined The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross on Thursday to share his intel on where things stand around the league, dive into the discussion of NBA expansion, and highlight the value of Kings guard Keon Ellis, who is \u201cpopular\u201d in trade discussions.<\/p>\n

Ellis, who is the Kings\u2019 best defender and a talented long-distance shooter (42% during his NBA career), has fallen victim to Sacramento\u2019s current logjammed roster.<\/p>\n

Veterans like Russell Westbrook, Zach LaVine, Malik Monk, and Dennis Schroder are ahead of Ellis on the depth chart, meaning his minutes per game average has fallen from 24.4 during the 2024-25 campaign to 17.0 this season.<\/p>\n

Since the Kings picked up Ellis\u2019 $2.3 million team option for this year, the 25-year-old guard will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, giving him the right to sign with any team.<\/p>\n

Sacramento has two choices for Ellis: keep him past the deadline and hope he signs an extension when he becomes eligible on February 9th, or trade him.<\/p>\n

While the Kings contemplate whether to dangle Ellis in trade talks or focus on finding common ground on an extension come February, teams around the NBA have made it clear they are interested in the two-way guard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Keon Ellis market, I\u2019m pretty confident saying that it\u2019s going to be in the news. He is a very popular player around the league,\u201d Amick said of the Sacramento Kings guard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s still somewhat of an interest on the Kings\u2019 part if there was an extension down the road. They like Keon, but then the fans could of course say, \u2018how can you say you like Keon when you don\u2019t always play Keon?’\u201d<\/p>\n

Regarding what Sacramento could get in return for Ellis if he is moved, Amick said that the Kings would like to get a first-round pick, something that was echoed by ESPN Front Office insider Bobby Marks, who spoke with The Drive Guys this week.<\/a><\/p>\n
