POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman turned herself in following a 2023 deadly crash that killed one person after she was found to be going 90 to 102 mph in a 40 mph speed zone.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office says Jezaniah Gonzalez, 24, turned herself in on Dec. 15 at the BSO main jail. Deputies say she faces one count of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving with serious bodily injury.

On May 21, 2023, BSO and the Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of North Andrews Avenue and West Copans Road in Pompano Beach. Once on scene, the traffic investigation revealed that Gonzalez, of Hollywood, was driving a 2012 Ford Focus and traveling north on North Andrews Avenue in the right through lane.

Around the same time, the driver of a 2018 Infiniti Q50 was heading west on West Copans Road and about to turn left onto North Andrews Avenue. BSO says as the two vehicles entered the four-way intersection, they were involved in a T-Bone style crash.

BSO traffic investigators said the Infiniti had a steady green arrow for a left turn when the Ford entered the intersection on a red light.

Deputies say the damage to the Infiniti was so severe that rescue crews from Pompano Fire Rescue had to extract the driver and the passenger by removing the roof from the vehicle. Both occupants of both vehicles had to be taken to Broward Health North with life-threatening injuries.

The passenger of the Infiniti, identified as Marquis Walker, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
