TAMPA — Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Tampa man Dec. 29 in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist on U.S. 92 in Hillsborough County.
Lijah Ibin Muhammad-Roomes, 34, will face charges of leaving the scene of a fatal crash, according to FHP.
Troopers said Muhammad-Roomes was driving a 2001 Honda Passport west on U.S. 92 around 10:37 p.m. Dec. 20 when he veered onto the shoulder east of Mobile Villa Drive and struck a 38-year-old Nicaragua man riding a bicycle. The cyclist died at the scene.
Muhammad-Roomes fled after the crash, troopers said. Investigators recovered the SUV and arrested him at his home on West Ohio Avenue in Tampa.
